Gil and Inez travel to Paris as a tag-along vacation on her parents business trip. Gil is a successful Hollywood writer but is struggling on his first novel. He falls in love with the city and thinks they should move there after they get married. Inez does not share his romantic notions of the city or the idea that the 1920s was the golden age. When Inez goes off dancing with her friends, Gil takes a walk at midnight and discovers what could be the ultimate source of inspiration for writing. Gil's daily walks at midnight in Paris could take him closer to the heart of the city but further from the woman he's about to marry.

Elokuva käsittelee Kristoffer Kolumbusta, hänen ensimmäisisiä tutkimusretkistään ja intiaanien silloista kohtelua. Asiat sujuvat enemmän tai vähemmän sulavasti myös paikallisten työntekijöiden kanssa, kunnes puhkeaa konflikti ja mellakka paikallisen vesivarannon yksityistämisestä. Spanish director Sebastián, his executive producer Costa and all his crew are in Bolivia, in the Cochabamba area, to shoot a motion picture about Christopher Columbus, his first explorations and the way the Spaniards treated the Indians at the time. Costa has chosen this place because the budget of the film is tight and here he can hire supernumeraries, local actors and extras on the cheap. Things go more or less smoothly until a conflict erupts over the privatization of the water supply. The trouble is that one of the local actors, is a leading activist in the protest movement.

Nader puolestaan kieltäytyy muuttamasta, koska hän haluaa jäädä Iraniin pitämään huolta isästään, joka sairastaa Alzheimerin tautia. Simin pysyy lujasti kannassaan ja haluaa hakea avioeroa lähteäkseen maasta tyttärensä kanssa.
Nader (Peyman Moaadi) and Simin (Leila Hatami) argue about living abroad. Simin prefers to live abroad to provide better opportunities for their only daughter, Termeh. However, Nader refuses to go because he thinks he must stay in Iran and take care of his father (Ali-Asghar Shahbazi), who suffers from Alzheimers. However, Simin is determined to get a divorce and leave the country with her daughter.
